The government has called for an “extraordinary session of Parliament” from September 18-22, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi posted on X (formerly Twitter), adding that there will be five sessions . “Between Amrit Kaal, I look forward to a fruitful discussion and debate in Parliament,” he said.
Government sources have so far remained tight-lipped about possible agendas.

There is speculation that an extraordinary session will be convened to begin the process of moving the old parliament building to the new parliament building. So this session can start at the old one and end at the new one.
However, government sources also said the agenda would likely include the celebration of Amrit Kaal and India as a “developed country”. There is no indication that any major bills will be passed.

The opposition reacts and criticizes the moment
The convening of the extraordinary session was criticized by some opposition leaders, with those in Maharashtra pointing out that the date coincides with “the most important festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in India”.

“This special session convened during the most important Ganesh Chaturthi festival in India is regrettable and goes against the sentiments of the Hindus. Surprised by the choice of date!” said Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena UBT, while Supriya Sule of the Congress Party called for the event to be postponed.
