UNDERLINING THAT that it is “important for the future generations to live without any fear”, India cricket captain Rohit Sharma said he was concerned the rising level of air pollution in Mumbai and that, in an “ideal world, you don’t want a situation like this”.

After crisscrossing six cities, the Indian team reached Mumbai, Sharma’s hometown, earlier this week for their World Cup encounter against Sri Lanka in what will be a repeat of the 2011 edition’s final at the Wankhede Stadium.
However, the match was not the only thing on Sharma’s mind. On a flight to Mumbai from Lucknow, where India beat England on Sunday, Sharma appeared to be shocked the increasing pollution levels in the city and posted a picture on his social media platform with the caption: “Mumbai, yeh kya hogaya (Mumbai, what has happened).”
On Wednesday, before he went into the cricketing bits, Sharma spoke about the pollution issue. “In an ideal world, you don’t want a situation like this. I’m sure concerned people are taking necessary steps to avoid these kinds of situations. It’s not ideal, everyone knows that,” he said.Most Read

“Obviously, looking at our future generations, our kids – my kid – it’s important that they get to live without any fear. Every time when I get to speak outside of cricket, if we are not discussing cricket, I always talk about this. We have to look after our future generations,” he said.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board data, the AQI reading in Mumbai on Wednesday was a ‘moderate’ 167, marginally better than the previous day.
