EC biased, says Baghel

Accusing the Election Commission of bias, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday asked why a FIR has been filed only against him on charges of flouting Covid-19 protocol and not against anyone else in Uttar Pradesh.

“Why the FIR was filed against me, not against a BJP Minister and leaders in Amroha holding door-to-door campaigning in Uttar Pradesh,” he asked reporters before leaving for Bisrakh in the northern state.

“The Election Commission should remain impartial,” he added.

“Along with me 10-12 security personnel, the District Congress Committee President and the party candidate were also present. There were UP Police personnel also. There were around 30 media personnel.

“People are arriving to meet (us). How can they be stopped? The Election Commission should specify how electioneering has to be done.

“No action has been taken against the Amroha BJP candidate and a BJP Minister doing door-to-door canvassing for the last five days,” he said.

He said the Election Commission was showing partiality. If this situation persists, what will happen in the future, he asked.

“The institution should remain neutral,” he observed.
