Women’s respect is part of Chhattisgarh’s culture: CM

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said respect and honour to women is part of the Chhattisgarh culture and that is why the state stood first in sex ratio across the country.

This is also the reason why women in the state were scaling new heights in all spheres, he added.

Baghel was addressing the people in the 27th episode of the radio programme ‘Lokvaani’ aired from Akashvani on ‘Chhattisgarh Sarkar – Naari Shakti Ke Sarokaar’.

The percentage of women members in the Chhattisgarh Assembly is more than any other House in the country, he said.

Also, there was a provision of 50 percent reservation for women in elections to Panchayati Raj institutions in the state, he said.

The Chief Minister said the state was planning to set up a women’s security cell in each district to ensure a safe and secured environment for every female.

These efforts of Chhattisgarh have been appreciated by NITI Aayog. The state has been ranked first in gender equality in the India-Index report for 2020-21, he said.

Loans are provided to women Self-Help Groups at 3 percent simple interest rate per annum, he said.

For daughters who want to become self-employed by joining Self-Help Groups through the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission, there is a ‘Bihaan’ scheme, he said.

Hot food and ready-to-eat, take-home rations were being provided to 171,000 pregnant women through ‘Mahtari Jatan Yojana’.

“In the same sequence, I would also like to mention the ‘Dai-Didi Clinic Scheme’, under which special healthcare facilities are being provided to women and girls.”
