CM extends financial aid of Rs 4L to farmer

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday extended financial assistance of Rs 4 lakhs to a poverty-stricken tribal farmer who, unable to buy oxen, used his daughters to plough his field in Kondagaon district.

The Chief Minister took cognizance of a published report regarding Hembati (22) and Lakhmi (18) of Umargaon village. He sought details of the family from the Kondagaon Collector. He then sanctioned Rs 4 lakhs to the family.

A newspaper reportyed that farmer Amal Sai could not send his daughters to school. He was also unable to buy oxen to plough the fields.

He decided to sell his lone asset, the crop land, to support the family. The daughters opposed this stating that it is their only mode for livelihood. They took the place of oxen and ploughed the field of 5 acres.

The state government’s Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana provided assistance to the family. The good crop also helped them to an extent. Both young women now help their father in farming.
