‘I am aging … it was back spasm due to soft beds in Dharamshala’ : R Ashwin
R Ashwin says his back is fine after pulling out of Rajasthan Royals’s last league game in Dharamshala. He said he probably picked up the back spasm after sleeping on a “soft bed” in Dharamshala hotel.
“I always sleep on floor. But in Dharamshala (I slept) on the soft beds. Suddenly back spasm came and my back got stiff. I came home. Back is fine,” Ashwin told on his YouTube channel.
He also mentioned how his aging body and IPL travel played a role. “In IPL we keep traveling to different places. I am aging also …”
India will play the World Test Championship final against Australia on June 7 and The Indian Express has reported how the team management isn’t too chuffed about the lack of preparation, and in particular lack of bowling time with the Duke ball (the ball to be used in WTC) during IPL.
Ashwin did say that he would have been fit for the eliminator if Rajasthan Royals qualified. In another segment, he shared what Lasith Malinga told RR’s fast bowlers when they were discussing about Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer struggling to come back from back injuries. “He (Malinga) said it’s difficult to bowl yorkers after back injury.”
Ashwin also hoped that Dhoni can carry on playing the IPL in the coming years. “He goes hit 2 sixes in 3 balls that he faces. Why can’t he think that he can do this role in the future also?”
