In New Zealand, it’s kids, wives, moms, grandmom announce World Cup squad | Cricket News

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Monday announced their ODI World Cup squad with a “unique” style. The kids, wives, fiancée, grandmother, parents of the cricketers announced the squad of New Zealand saying their respective cap numbers.
The video starts with Kane Williamson’s wife and his kids saying New Zealand skipper’s ODI cap number. It was followed the sons of Trent Boult, wives of Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santaner, Ish Sodhi, Daryl Mithcell’s and Tim Southee’s daughers, Lockie Ferguson’s fiancee, Jimmy Neesham’s grandmother, Will Young’s mother and Rachin Ravidnra’s parents.

Kane Williamson, despite the batter’s ongoing recovery from a long-term knee ligament injury is appointed has the captain. Tom Latham has been named Williamson’s deputy, he will continue with the keeping gloves after taking a record-equaling 21 catches at the last event.
Meanwwhile, Trent Boult will spearhead the pace attack but opener Finn Allen and fast bowler Adam Milne have missed out on the squad for India. Boult returned to action with three wickets in a 79-run defeat England in Southampton on Sunday.

New Zealand were runners-up to hosts England at the 2019 tournament, losing a classic final at Lord’s on boundary count after the teams could not be separated a tie-breaking Super Over.
The squad for the tournament which starts in India on October 5 was named this morning at an event at World Cup squad member Ish Sodhi’s old school, Papatoetoe High School in Auckland.
We just felt that we looked through what the potential game-plan was looking like in India, looked at the grounds, and also looked at the form of the two players as well,” head coach Gary Stead told reporters.

“We felt that Young was the right guy to go with.”
Jimmy Neesham, who all but batted New Zealand to victory in the 2019 final, has also been included, despite joining Boult in opting out of his national contract last year.
“I think you always have the need for all-rounders and I guess with Michael Bracewell dropping out, that also opened up an option for another all-rounder there,” Stead said of Neesham’s selection.Most Read

Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips feature in a One Day World Cup squad for the first time having featured in T20 World Cup squads before.

Allrounder Rachin Ravindra and batsman Will Young are selected in their first senior white ball World Cup squads.
