The big news from CSK’s point of view is the effective confirmation of the fact that MS Dhoni will return for another season, and as the captain. And of course, to no one’s surprise, they have retained a large number of their title-winning squad. Gujarat Titans
At the center of the biggest trade in the hory of IPL so far, GT came out with their purse heftier Rs 15 crore (they now have the most funds remaining) but their squad weakened. But the release of Alzarri Joseph and Yash Dayal went somewhat under the radar. They have work to do on the bowling front but have money to shell out.

Kolkata Knight Riders
It’s becoming a trend of sorts of KKR now to reset their squads without having too much wiggle room in their purse. Gautam Gambhir, returning as a mentor, will have his task cut out. The squad has the makings of a decent core but reinforcements are needed with the most number of slots left to fill.
Purse remaining: Rs 32.70 crore, Available slots:12 (Overseas: 4)
Retained Players: Andre Russell, Anukul Roy, Harshit Rana, Jason Roy, Nitish Rana, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer.

Lucknow Super Giants
LSG picked up Devdutt Padikkal in a trade with RR and it makes one wonder if KL Rahul is looking at a middle-overs role for 2024. There is not much work to do for LSG in the auction as they have the least funds remaining and just 6 slots to fill, so it would be a matter of smart buys.
Purse remaining: Rs 13.15 crore, Available slots: 6 (Overseas: 2)
Retained Players: Amit Mishra, Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Devdutt Padikkal (T), K Gowtham, KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Naveen Ul Haq, Nicholas Pooran, Prerak Mankad, Quinton De Kock, Ravi Bishnoi, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Charak.

Mumbai Indians
The pre-auction headlines have been grabbed MI and now they have just about enough room to work the auction and complete their squad. They don’t have to fill up all 8 remaining slots but trying to do so with just Rs 17.75 crore is going to be tricky.
Purse remaining: Rs 17.75 crore, Available slots: 8 (Overseas: 4)
Retained Players: Akash Madhwal, Arjun Tendulkar, Dewald Brevis, Ishan Kishan, Jason Behrendorff, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Piyush Chawla, Rohit Sharma, Romario Shepherd (T), Shams Mulani, Surya Kumar Yadav, Tim David, Vishnu Vinod, Hardik Pandya (T).
Released Players: Chris Jordan, Duan Jansen, Hrithik Shokeen, Jhye Richardson, Jofra Archer, Mohd. Arshad Khan, Raghav Goyal, Ramandeep Singh, Roley Meredith, Sandeep Warrier, Tran Stubbs.
Punjab Kings
For a change, PBKS won’t be entering an IPL auction with plenty of paddle-lifting at their table. Despite finishing 8th, Punjab have stuck to their guns for the most part. The release of Shahrukh Khan, however, is perhaps one of the more surprising ones. There is still work to be done and they do have decent funds available for a couple of big overseas buys.
Purse remaining: Rs 29.10 crore, Available slots: 8 (Overseas: 2)
Retained Players: Arshdeep Singh, Atharva Taide, Harpreet Brar, Harpreet Bhatia, Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Nathan Ellis, Prabhsimran Singh, Rahul Chahar, Rishi Dhawan, Sam Curran, Shikhar Dhawan, Shivam Singh, Sikandar Raza, Vidwath Kaverappa.
Released Players: Baltej Dhanda, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Gurnoor Singh Brar, Matthew Short, Mohit Rathee, Raj Angad Bawa, Shahrukh Khan.
Rajasthan Royals
RR have the least wiggle room among the teams, with an average of Rs 1.81 crore available to fill up a maximum of 8 slots. With the likes of Jason Holder and Obed McCoy released, RR don’t have too much freedom in bringing in big overseas names to complete their quota.
Purse remaining: Rs 14.50 crore, Available slots: 8 (Overseas: 3)
Retained Players: Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan (T), Dhruv Jurel, Donovan Ferreira, Jos Buttler, Kuldeep Sen, Kunal Rathore, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, R Ashwin, Riyan Parag, Sandeep Sharma, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal.
Released Players: Abdul PA, Akash Vashisht, Jason Holder, Joe Root, KC Cariappa, KM Asif, Kuldip Yadav, Murugan Ashwin, Obed McCoy.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
At the end of the retention deadline, RCB had the biggest purse remaining and perhaps an exciting auction to look forward to. But spending Rs 17.5 crore on the trade for Cameron Green, they have less room to work with, especially after releasing most of their bowling options. Green will bolster their already decent batting but for RCB, the problem has always been one of the right balance.
Purse remaining: Rs 23.25 crore, Available slots: 6 (Overseas: 3)
Retained Players: Akash Deep, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Himanshu Sharma, Karn Sharma, Mahipal Lomror, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar (T), Mohammed Siraj, Rajan Kumar, Rajat Patidar, Reece Topley, Suyash Prabhudessai, Virat Kohli, Vyshak Vijay Kumar, Will Jacks, Cameron Green (T).

Sunrisers Hyderabad
For a team that finished last in IPL 2023, SRH have shown restraint in rebuilding with only six slots to fill and the second-highest budget in hand. The surprise was the release of Harry Brook, who was seen as a long-term investment but SRH seem to be trusting their core and have left themselves some room to buy a big-name overseas matchwinner or two.
Purse remaining: Rs 34.00 crore, Available slots: 6 (Overseas: 3)
