Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim was given out for obstructing the field on opening day of the second cricket Test against New Zealand.
Mushfiqur was batting on 35 when the incident happened. He defended a ball from Kyle Jamieson with his bat and as the ball bounced, he palmed the ball away with his gloves. His decision to intervene was even more absurd as the ball looked to be going harmlessly away from the stumps.
The umpires on the field got into a huddle and then referred the decision to the third umpire, who sealed his fate and gave him out for ‘obstructing the field’.
The decision might come back to haunt Bangladesh, as Mushfiqur and Shahadat Hossain had stitched together a partnership of 57 runs at that stage with Bangladesh at 104/5. Shahadat was dismissed 19 runs later.

Earlier, New Zealand’s left-arm spinners Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel had claimed two wickets each to leave the hosts reeling at 80-4 at lunch on Wednesday. Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to bat first. They’re chasing their first-ever Test series win over New Zealand.
Bangladesh are currently leading the two-match series after winning the opener 150 runs and retained the same starting lineup for the second Test.
