‘With the World Cup coming, every game is important’: Shardul Thakur | Cricket News

Shardul Thakur took 4/37 as India won the final one-day international the huge margin of 200 runs to clinch the three-match series 2-1 on Tuesday.

Put in to bat, India reached 351-5 with captain Hardik Pandya smashing 18 in the last over for a 52-ball 70 not out. West Indies was all out in reply for 151 in 35.3 overs.
Notably, this was Thakur’s best spell in ODIs, bettering the 4/52 against South Africa in Centurion in 2018.
Complimenting his fellow pacer Mukesh Kumar who bagged three early wickets, Thakur, in the post-match press conference said, “Bowling unit bowled well and we were trying to put our best effort despite Windies losing three at the top.”
On his fruitful spell with the ball he said, “I have never thought about people watching my performances and judging me. Many a time it will happen that on certain surfaces, spinners will get help and fast bowlers will be rested and vice-versa. I just want to keep contributing towards my team’s performance and make those contributions impactful.”
“I have been a part of the squad over the past two years. The team expects something from me, so they are confident in me and I want to keep delivering the goods.”
As far as World Cup is concerned, Thakur is not among those who play for his spot. “Very wrong of me to think I will play for my spot in the WC. I will do what the team needs from me,” he said.
“With the World Cup coming, for us individually, every game is important,” he added.
West Indies and India are also scheduled to play a five-match T20 series, starting at Tarouba on Thursday. The fourth and fifth Twenty20 games will be at Lauderhill, Florida, on Aug. 12-13.
