‘You only live once, so why not’: Caroline Wozniacki on returning to Grand Slam tennis three years after retiring | Tennis News

Former No. 1-ranked player Caroline Wozniacki is now a 33-year-old mother of two and relishes the opportunity of a Grand Slam return in New York.
Wozniacki, who bid farewell to the game in January 2020, had her greatest triumph at the Australian Open in 2018, when she beat Simona Halep in the final after facing match point in the tournament’s second round.
That enabled her to climb to No. 1 in the rankings.
But now there are other challenges, mainly the extra effort it takes to recover from a practice session or a match now that she’s older.
But she also said her “body is cooperating” so far.
“I don’t know how long I’m going to play for,” Wozniacki said, noting that she intends to map out “more of a full schedule” in 2024. “I don’t know if it’s going to be a year, two years, three years. I can’t predict the future.”
The U.S. Tennis Association gave Wozniacki a wild card entry into the tournament after she announced in June that she was returning to competition three years after retiring to start a family.
“I started just missing the cardio aspect. I’ll always love the game, no matter if I’m 33 or if I’m going to be 80,” Wozniacki was quoted as saying BBC.

“I hope I’m always going to be fit enough that if I want to go out there and hit some balls, play some doubles or whatever, that would be a possibility with my friends.
“It just happened to be that I felt like I was hitting the ball extremely well, that I still am young enough to give it another shot.

“When you look at yourself and you feel like you still have a chance to do something really cool and really good, then you have got to take the chance.
